The young slugger, who is currently in the process of rehabbing from a strained oblique, made an appearance at the team’s annual fan festival this past weekend. Guerrero Jr. took the time to sign autographs and take pictures with fans, and he even posed for a selfie with a young fan wearing a Yankees jersey.
While it’s always nice to see a player interacting with fans, what really won over Blue Jays fans was when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was asked if he would ever sign with the Yankees. “No way,” Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said with a smile when asked if he would sign with the Yankees. “I’m a Blue Jay.”
The response was met with cheers from the Blue Jays fans in attendance, and it’s easy to see why. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is one of the most promising young players in baseball, and the thought of him signing with the Yankees is enough to make any Blue Jays fan cringe.
Of course, there’s a long way to go before Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is actually eligible for free agency, so this is all moot for now. But it’s still nice to know that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is loyal to the Blue Jays and has no intention of signing with the Yankees when he hits the open market.
Guerrero Jr. himself has now put an end to those rumors, telling reporters on Tuesday that he “would never sign with the Yankees.” “I’m a Blue Jay for life,” Guerrero Jr. said. “I would never sign with the Yankees. I don’t care how much money they offer me.”
Guerrero Jr. is eligible for free agency after the 2024 season. It’s not surprising that Guerrero Jr. would want to stay with the Blue Jays, given how loyal he has been to the organization over the years.
