The Vancouver Canucks set some records on their season-opening

The Canucks were the first team in NHL history to give up a lead in each of their first three games. They also became the first team to lose all three games by one goal.

The Canucks’ trip started with a 5-4 OT loss to the Oilers, continued with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Flames, and wrapped up with a 3-2 loss to the Jets. The Canucks will look to get back on track when they host the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night.

This is not the kind of start that new head coach Travis Green and his young group was hoping for, but they will try to turn things around Saturday night when they host the New York Islanders.

“It’s tough times right now,” Green said after Thursday’s game. “We’re all frustrated. The players are frustrated, I’m sure the fans are frustrated. We just have to keep working our way out of it.”

One positive for the Canucks is that they are getting better defensively, as they have allowed just seven goals over their last three games after giving up 18 in their first two.m”We’re starting to play better defensively,” Green said. “We’re keeping the puck out of our net a little bit more. We’re just giving up too many goals.”

Offensively, Vancouver is still struggling to score as they have just seven goals in their first five games. The power play has also been an issue, as the Canucks are just 1-for-16 with the man advantage so far this season.

“We have to find a way to score some goals,” Green said. “Our power play has to be better. We have to create more offense 5-on-5.”

The Canucks will look to get back in the win column Saturday night when they host the Islanders. New York is also off to a slow start, as they are 1-3-1 so far this season.
