Patrick Beverley, who has been a thorn in the side of the Lakers dating back to his days with the Houston Rockets, has agreed to a three-year deal with Los Angeles, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Beverley will reportedly sign a deal worth $40 million. The 32-year-old guard averaged 7.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 29 games with the Clippers last season.
The Lakers are also reportedly signing guard Talen Horton-Tucker to a two-way contract. Horton-Tucker, 19, was a second-round pick by the Lakers in last year’s draft. He appeared in just four games for Los Angeles last season.
A nine-year NBA veteran, Beverley has also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets. He was an NBA All-Defensive Second Team selection in 2017-18 with the Clippers.
The Lakers (22-8) are currently in first place in the Western Conference. They acquired forward Andre Drummond earlier this week after he was bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Patrick Beverley will now join the Lakers, adding another veteran guard to a team that has been contending for a championship for several years now. Beverley was traded to the Jazz as part of the deal that sent George to the Clippers, but he never played a game for Utah.
The Lakers will send Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson to the Jazz as part of the deal, according to sources. Both players are young and have shown promise, but they have not been able to crack the rotation on a team that is loaded with talent.
This trade will give the Lakers another experienced guard who can play both ends of the floor and provide leadership in the locker room. Beverley is known for his tough defense and he will be a welcome addition to a team that is already one of the best in the league.
With this trade, the Lakers have made it clear that they are all in for a championship run this season. They have added another experienced player who can help them win games and they are sending away two players who were not getting much playing time. This is a win-win trade for the Lakers and they will be a better team as a result.
That’s the Lakers’ kind of player. Patrick Beverley will now be starting for the Los Angeles Lakers after the team agreed to trade Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson to the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.
The Lakers have been looking for a reliable 3-and-D player since they lost Danny Green in free agency, and they believe they have found their man in Patrick Beverley. The 32-year-old guard has been one of the best perimeter defenders in the league for years, and he has also shown an ability to knock down 3-pointers when called upon.
The Lakers are hopeful that Beverley can provide some much-needed stability on the defensive end of the floor, and they are also counting on him to be a more consistent shooter than Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson.
Patrick Beverley is a welcome addition to the Lakers, and he should help the team take another step forward in their quest to repeat as NBA champions.
