NHL — the best goal of the week
The NHL handed out its best goal of the week honors to Nashville Predators center Filip Forsberg, who scored an impressive between-the-legs tally against the Colorado Avalanche.
On the other end of the spectrum, the NHL’s worst gaffe of the week goes to Buffalo Sabres goaltender Carter Hutton, who let in a softie against the New York Islanders.
Elsewhere, the NHL announced its three stars of the week, with Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury leading the way.
One of those gems is defenseman Erik Gustafsson, who has been on an absolute tear since being recalled from the AHL in December. In 26 games with the Blackhawks, Gustafsson has eight goals and 22 assists for 30 points. He’s been especially hot of late, with 11 points in his last 10 games.
But Gustafsson’s not the only player who has been pleasantly surprising for the Blackhawks this season. Forward Drake Caggiula, who was acquired in a trade with the Edmonton Oilers last summer, has also been a revelation. In 49 games with the Blackhawks, Caggiula has 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points.
Goalie Collin Delia has also been a pleasant surprise for the Blackhawks this season. In 19 games, he’s posted an .923 save percentage and a 2.63 GAA.
With the NHL trade deadline just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if the Blackhawks can capitalize on the surprise success of Gustafsson, Caggiula and Delia and fetch a nice haul of prospects and draft picks in return.
