Deshaun Watson apologised for all his action against women while playing for the Houston Texans
The NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson took to Twitter on Thursday night to say sorry for his actions, which are currently under investigation by the league.
“I want to apologize to everyone for my actions,” Watson wrote. “I know that I have a lot of work to do to regain everyone’s trust and respect, but I am committed to doing that.”
Watson has been accused of sexual harassment and assault by 22 women, many of whom allege that the quarterback made unwanted sexual advances during massages. Watson has denied all the allegations against him.
The NFL is investigating the accusations against Watson, and the quarterback could be suspended or even banned from the league if found guilty. In his apology, Watson said he is “committed to continuing to learn and grow” from the allegations against him.
In the twit, Deshaun Watson said: “I never meant to make them feel uncomfortable or put them in any compromising positions whatsoever.”
“I also want to apologize to my family, friends and the Houston Texans organization for all the negative attention that has been brought upon them because of my actions.”
“I know that I have to be held accountable for my past choices and I am truly sorry for all the pain and heartache that I have caused. I have to hold myself to a higher standard,” he wrote. “I am sorry.”
Mr. Goodell has the final say on any punishment, which could range from a fine to a suspension. Mr. Watson has denied all the allegations against him.
In the meantime, Deshaun Watson continues to face more accusations of sexual misconduct. On Tuesday, Ashley Solis, a Houston-based massage therapist, became the first woman to file a lawsuit against Mr. Watson, alleging that he sexually assaulted her during a massage session in 2020.
Ms. Solis is one of more than 20 women who have accused Mr. Watson of sexual misconduct, according to a report by ESPN. The accusations against Mr. Watson include forcible kissing, touching of genitals and making lewd comments during massage sessions.
“I know there are many questions and I will continue to answer them in the appropriate forum,” Mr. Watson said in the statement. “I just ask that everyone respect the process.”
The NFL has said it is investigating the allegations against Mr. Watson. The Houston Police Department has also opened an investigation.
