“Everybody contributed,” John Schneider said after the Blue Jays beat the Yankees 5-4 in 10 innings. “It was a great team win.”

The Blue Jays took the lead in the top of the 10th when shortstop Bo Bichette hit a go-ahead RBI single off reliever Aroldis Chapman. Blue Jays closer Ken Giles then shut the door in the bottom half, getting Giancarlo Stanton to fly out with the tying run on second base.

“We needed that,” Bichette said of the win. “We’ve been scuffling a little bit offensively, so to come out and get a big win like that against a good team, it feels good.”

The Blue Jays had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI double by Lourdes Gurriel Jr., but the Yankees tied it up in the bottom half on an RBI single by DJ LeMahieu.

“It was a good game,” Schneider said. “Two good teams going at it. A lot of good pitching on both sides. I’m just proud of the way our guys battled.”

The Blue Jays had taken the lead in the top of the 10th when Biggio scored from first on a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. double to left, but Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman struck out Bo Bichette and Randal Grichuk to send the game to the bottom of the inning.

In the bottom half, Blue Jays reliever Ken Giles retired the first two batters he faced before running into trouble. Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez singled and was followed by a walk to pinch-hitter Gio Urshela, putting runners on first and second.

In the bottom of the inning, Blue Jays rookie sensation Cavan Biggio reached on a one-out single to right and was followed by a walk to Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

With two on and two out, Blue Jays third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. came through with the game-winning hit, a single to left that scored Biggio from second and gave the Blue Jays a 3-2 victory.

The Blue Jays will look to build on their win as they take on the Yankees again tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET.
