Blue Jays players were seen spraying champagne in the locker room and clubhouse, as they celebrated their first playoff berth since 2016. Blue Jays pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu even jumped into the team’s swimming pool fully clothed!

It was a celebration that Blue Jays fans have been waiting a long time for, and one that will be remembered for years to come.

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo was also all smiles, as he reflected on what his team has accomplished this season. “It’s been a long time coming,” Montoyo said. “I’m just so happy for these guys.”

The Blue Jays will now face the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Wild Card Game on Wednesday. It will be the first time the Blue Jays have made the playoffs since 2016, when they lost to the Cleveland Indians in the AL Championship Series.

Blue Jays players huddled near the centre-field mound and took turns spraying each other with champagne and beer. “We had a great time out there,” Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin said. “It was a lot of fun. It was our first time clinching a playoff spot in Toronto so it was special for all of us.”

Blue Jays ace David Price, who was traded to Toronto from Detroit at the July 31 non-waiver deadline, got doused with beer and champagne during a televised interview. The Blue Jays acquired Price in an attempt to bolster their rotation for a deep playoff run.

“It feels great,” Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista said of clinching a playoff spot. “It’s been a long time coming, a lot of hard work by a lot of guys, not just the 25 guys in here. It’s been an organisation-wide effort and we’re finally reaping the benefits of it.”

Bautista and the Blue Jays haven’t been to the playoffs since winning the World Series in 1993, but they’ll have a chance to end that drought this October.

Blue Jays fans will be hoping that their team can make a deep run in this year’s playoffs. It’s been a long time coming, but the Blue Jays are finally back in the postseason!
